PAST EVENT: QTPOC Round Table with Raquel Willis
September 20, 2020 at 5:30pm - 7:30pm.
A thought leader on race, gender and intersectionality, Raquel Willis is a Black queer transgender activist, writer and speaker dedicated to inspiring and elevating marginalised individuals, particularly transgender women of colour.
As part of her visit to Australia for the Transforming Democracy summit, Raquel met with various community groups to share her learnings.
On 20 September 2018, InVisible* facilitated a roundtable workshop session with Raquel, discussing the importance of First Nations sovereignty in racial justice and making sure intersectionality and decolonisation are a practice we enact and not just words we use in conversation.
How do we ensure our QTPOC community is pro-Bla(c)k and trans-affirmative? How do we combat Black vilification by the media and the erasure of trans pathways for young people by our PM? We chatted about this and more.
This event was designed for QTPOC, especially First Nations people, trans and gender diverse people and young people aged 18-25.
**The (in)visible project is an initiative designed to build community with events for young queer and trans people of colour aged 18-25.
