EVENT: We Must Stand Together
May 10, 2018 at 9am - 5pm.
Footscray Community Arts Centre
45 Moreland St
Footscray, Victoria 3011
In Victoria, we are facing an election shaped by a toxic “law and order” narrative. Those of us who believe in inclusion, fairness and justice must join together to resist this narrative, and to build up our strength, resilience and connection to each other.
That's why we're inviting you to We Must Stand Together: A forum to plan our advocacy and campaigning ahead of this election.
We Must Stand Together will involve a mix of panel sessions, powerful performances by poets and musicians, and practical skills workshops with experts on campaign strategy, messaging and media communications, and voter canvassing.
Forum participants will range from NGOs, to community legal centres, social service organisations, to community members and activists who are fighting systemic discrimination and injustice at the coalface, every day.
This event will bring renowned voices from across Victoria together. We will hear leading voices from First Nations communities, such as Tony Birch, Paola Bella, Indi Clarke and Meriki Onus. We’ll hear from leaders in African-Australian and migrant communities, including from Nyadol Nyuon, Zione Walker-Nthenda, Santilla Chingaipe and Wani Frere.
We will also hear exciting campaign announcements from a range of organisations and groups who are gearing up to take action.
By coming together to share our perspectives, stories, skills, plans and experiences, we can strengthen our collective power.
We hope you'll join us.
This is an event in which the voices of people who are directly affected by racism and criminalisation will be prioritised. It is also an opportunity for other influential and powerful community advocates to share information and coordinate together. For these reasons, attendance by members of the police force is not appropriate. If you work for the government or for a political party or media outlet we ask that you attend in a personal capacity only.
