We are pleased to advise that we have confirmed a meeting space for the exciting event Visiting US scholar, Professor Lois Lupica, on evidence-based self-help to be held at RMIT’s - Graduate School of Business and Law.

Visiting US scholar, Professor Lois Lupica, on evidence-based self-help - Monday 27 May, 10am - 12pm

Professor Lupica recently presented her research into self-help at the Community Legal Education Forum, which many members found valuable and suggested we organise a wider audience for her work.

In the US legal self-help has become a necessity given there is almost no funding for legal assistance. Her approach may be of interest to community legal centres because she focuses on how to empower people to not merely understand their rights, but to act on them. Uniquely, she has been able to rigorously test what works and what does not.

We know in Australia we continue to push for legal assistance and representation for those in the community in most need. However, every day legal centres assist people to self-represent in matters, provide community legal education and other materials. Hearing from Professor Lupica is a complement to our work and provides a different insight and thorough research into this area.

This session provides fresh insights and robust research into legal self-help. Register here to secure your attendance.

Professor Lupica is in Melbourne on a Fulbright Senior Scholarship into the study of Access to Justice in Australia.
